Filaments

So many choices

These are simply the filaments I've used and enjoyed. This is all personal preference.

You may want to use different filaments. That's fine.

I've been a big fan of eSUN PLA+ for a long time, even after their transition to cardboard spools. I'm considering switching to Polymaker though. Time will tell.

These are presented in no particular order.

AMOLEN Glow-in-the-Dark

I use a lot of GitD filaments. I'm trying this one out as an alternative to Hatchbox.

  • Prints translucent.
  • Will glow with a strong charge, UV light suggested.
  • Basic PLA.

AMOLEN Tri-Color Silk

Co-extrusion filaments are a LOT of fun! This one is one of my favorites.

  • Technically a PLA Silk, so take the normal cautions.
  • Try a quick test print to learn what orientation it will print in.
  • Works best with low-poly models.

eSUN Metallic Silver PLA

I have bought so many spools of silk silver trying to find one that's bright and shiny. Of them all, this one is by FAR the best!

  • Actually prints pretty quickly, considering it's technically a silk.
  • Print your outer layers / surfaces slowly for the shiniest finish.
  • I use this a lot for the reflective layers in my light boxes.

eSUN PLA+

The staple of most of my prints, I've always enjoyed printing eSUN PLA+. The Black and "White" (not Cold White) are my most consumed for light boxes, but having about 20 other spools of various colors they all print very well. Can get brittle if moist though!

  • Easily prints at 18-21mm³/s.
  • Surprisingly durable, even when thin.
  • Can be stringy if you don't tune retraction.

FilaCube PLA2

I got this one specifically for the color-match to Aggie Maroon, and it did not disappoint.

  • Super-common color for schools and universities.
  • Prints very quickly - no issues at 18mm³/s.
  • Decent light transmission @ 0.6mm thick.

Hatchbox Glow-in-the-Dark

I use a lot of GitD filaments. I've probably printed six or seven spools of this and love it.

  • Prints translucent.
  • Will glow with a strong charge, UV light suggested.
  • Basic PLA.
